====== Massive ====== {{ :shows:massive.png?nolink |}} ===== History ===== Massive was a Saturday morning show that ran from 2093 to 2096 as a competitor to the long-running {zshow:satam}. Throughout its run it was presented by {zchar:andie} and former popstar {zchar:shane}. It followed its inspiration's successful formula, featuring competitions, interviews with music or sports personalities, slots for cut-in shows and a variety of gunge based studio games. The show was broadcast live and there was a heavy emphasis on segments where the viewers could influence the result from the studio audience or at home using their phones. The show was aimed at young teens but had an enthusiastic following among college students as well, mostly due to the presence of Andie and Shane for the female-interested and male-interested fans respectively. ===== Games ===== Some participants applied beforehand, but many of the studio game players were chosen at random on the day by inviting them to put their show ticket in a lottery drum which was brought out while the games were being prepared. Most of the games ended with the contestants covered in gunge, so after each game they were transported backstage in a cart to shower off. They would rejoin the audience in a position of honour down at the front wearing temporary pyjama clothes before getting their laundered clothing back before the end of the show. ==== Under Pressure ==== Two audience members would be selected to sit in a semicircular gunge machine that looked like an aircraft cockpit with a partition in the middle, each with a set of controls in front of them that the other player couldn't see. Instructions on what controls to find and adjust were given to the players through screens on the partition while a large counter at the back of the machine showed the rising pressure in the gunge pipes around them - the players had to cooperate to get their instructions heard and acted on quickly to keep the counter down, as the instruction given to each player might only be possible on the set of controls the other player had. Eventually, the counter would overflow, making the valves above the players burst open and gunge them both. Prizes were awarded based on how long they were able to keep themselves clean. ==== Stop the Snot ==== A huge green canine muzzle prop pokes from the studio wall down into a booth next to it, with a blowup seat underneath. A player selected from the studio audience sits under the nostrils and selects a player from the phone lines to help them escape the gunge. The phone player is guided by Andie in playing a matching pairs game with their keypad where each number corresponds to a card - a prize is awarded for each pair found within 30 seconds. If not all the pairs are found when time runs out, the studio player is gunged with green "snot" erupting from the nostrils above them - light from one pipe and dark from the other, angled slightly inwards so that it mixes as it splurges over their head. ==== Gunge Grotto ==== This game is played by a prearranged child/adult team, where the younger player has nominated a parent, teacher, etc to be gunged for some embarrassment to them. The adult is seated with foam shackles on a chair on a rail that disappears backwards into the mouth of a cave built into the studio wall, with a set of three gargoyle heads above it. Beside the cave, their nominator sits in a gunge tank with a large lever on the wall next to them. Shane asks the adult a series of up to five questions on a subject chosen by their nominator, with each right answer making a tongue unfurl on the gargoyle heads behind them. If they answer three of them correctly, then the gunge tank beside them activates and slimes their nominator. If they don't (or to be honest, even when they do), the nominator gets to pull the lever to send their chair backwards into the Gunge Grotto, where they're covered in gunge and foam by a set of sprayers embedded around the walls and ceiling. The gunging finishes with a curtain of slime that drops across the entrance as the player is moved forwards out of it, coating them completely as they're carried through. ===== Influences ===== Massive is influenced by the competing Saturday morning shows in the UK in the 80s and 90s. The title "Stop the Snot" is straight from the last season of Live and Kicking. ==== Stories ==== {zshowstories:massive}
